We hosted a summertime
schoolhouse. Members broke off into small groups and assisted each
other with questions regarding techniques and other quilting related
topics. Additional topics were made
available if needed. When we reconvened as a large group highlights
included our favorite local and on line shops, the thinner the thread
the less bulk in your seams, use a laser to assist when squaring up, use
painters tape to mark your quilting lines, on
a large spool of Aurifil the large circle end is removable. Remove it
to change the direction the thread comes off the spool to suit your
machine or if you knick the circle and the thread gets caught there,
just to name a few.

Announcements
QuiltCon 2020 Charity Quilt
Jenni
Grover is heading up this project. We are seeking designers for the
quilt and/or design ideas. We are also looking for suggestions of a
non-profit to donate this quilt to after the show.
Anyone who wants to assist on this project for even a little amount of
time, please email the guild and we will put you in contact with Jenni.
We would love to include Laura Hartrich’s curved letters in the quilt
if possible, because they are so loved in
our guild and at QuiltCon where they won a ribbon, we are also open to
other ideas too!
Community Building Programs
If
you have interviewed your partner and are ready to share with the
group, please email Laura Hartich or the guild, so we can coordinate
when you both will be at a meeting. Charity Pods if you have met and
are willing to share your
experience on the blog or in the newsletter please email Laura or the
guild.
Anniversary Book Update!
We
are accepting submissions now for the Chicago MQG 10th anniversary
book! You should have received a link to submit up to five of your
favorite quilts in your email. Entries will be open through August 15,
we’ve extended it by two
weeks. You can submit finished quilts, quilt tops, or design ideas that
can be completed in a couple months’ time. Remember that what we hope
to produce is a history of the guild, so while we all get really excited
about what we are making right now, we are
looking for quilts that span the entire ten years of our guild. That
means that some newer work might not get accepted if you have a beloved
quilt from many years ago!
You
will have up to five entries, so select quilts from your entire time as
a member of the guild, and please submit quilts that were made in or
inspired by workshops you’ve taken in the guild!
We
are not looking for the same things that a show like QuiltCon looks
for. You can submit quilts made from patterns, quilts made in workshops,
or QuiltCon rejects. The judges will be looking for quilts that help
tell the story of this
guild, regardless of how long you’ve been a member, whether or not your
quilt is an original design, or your skill level (which is subjective
anyway). It will cost $3.50 to submit your five quilts, which will help
us defray the cost of the jurying system.
We
are still seeking a guild member who has professional graphic design
experience, and we would also love to hear from you if you’re interested
in being the sales manager for the book and handling and arranging the
pre-orders and any
shipping to out of state members!
We’re
also looking for people interested in helping to plan an anniversary
party for the guild for our March 2020 meeting, which is one month after
the anniversary so it’s better weather.
