We had the pleasure of hosting Quilt and Fabric
Designer Libs Elliot from Toronto, Canada for the weekend. On Saturday ,
many members and friends Embraced the Cachous in an all-day workshop
where everyone created their own design, but all
used the same pattern. It was a fun working with a pattern that is
only taught in workshops and not available individually.
The
next day Libs came to our regular meeting and explained her process and
got all of minds swirling with new ideas. A handful of members event
brought their completed tops, many with the plan to make more blocks to
enlarge their quilts.
Announcements
June meeting will be a sew-in held on SATURDAY June 22 at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard Road, Wheaton.
Come and work on your own projects, bring your machine or handwork. We
will have a few cutting/iron
stations available. The sew-in will be from 10-4, with a quick
business meeting with show & tell at 2 PM. Come for the entire time
or pop in for part of the day. You can bring your lunch or visit/order
in from nearby restaurants. The park district does
have a rule against bringing in any home-made goodies to share. So, if
you made some treats for your lunch you are welcome to eat them, but
you may not share them with the group. This event is free for all CMQG
members.
Fall
Retreat Update
Due to the Sienna Center being booked with their own
events on all weekends this fall, we needed to find a similar location
to test out for fall 2019. Retreats Chair Katie and Treasurer Deb,
called/emailed/researched
40 other facilities looking for accommodations closest to what we are
used to and at a comparable cost. We will be going to Cedar Lake
Ministries in Cedar Lake, IN (just over the IL line) this fall.
Distance is about the same as going to Sienna from the
city. A more detailed message will be sent to all members soon. The
dates are 10/25-10/28. Registration goes live on August 19 @ 7 PM. If
more than 24 attendees sign up, we will have a lottery at the September
meeting.
